DRFC Sharp on target in Rovers win

Doncaster Rovers continued their build up to the new season with a 1-0 pre season victory at Mansfield Town.

Manager Sean O`Driscoll once again used the opportunity to field two different sides in each half.

Once again, a number of trialists were involved. Former Sheffield United and Wednesday midfielder Alan Quinn who is out of contract from Ipswich Town joined Kevin McDonald, Rowan Vine, Ellis Deeney and Rachid Bouhenna.

In addition, a central defender called Gallagher (possibly Declan Gallagher, who played last season for Stranraer) and an unnamed trialist were involved.

Chris Brown made his second debut for the club when he completed just over thirty minutes of the first half.

In a typical pre season game, neither side looked too interested in breaking out in a sweat.

The best chance of the first half fell to James Hayter but he lifted his shot over the crossbar with just the keeper to beat.

Both goalkeepers had an easy fourty-five minutes with neither really tested.

Despite wholesale changes at half time, the game showed little signs of changing.

Billy Sharp went close with one header before scoring the only goal of the game with just twelve minutes remaining when he fired past the Mansfield keeper.

Rovers now travel to Carlisle United on Saturday for a benefit match in aid of former player Sean McDaid who was forced to retire last season through injury.

Are Rovers really being given any sort of a test in pre season, all seems pretty laid back. Are we scared of getting injuries already!

Its about being ready for the first game of the season. Carlisle and Sheffield United will be much sterner tests.
