DRFC Coppinger extends Rovers contract

Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger has tied himself to the club by signing a new contract.

The clubs longest serving player has signed an extension to his current contract, keeping him at the Keepmoat until the summer of 2014.

The 30 year old has now been with the club for seven years since signing from Exeter City in 2004 and has made over 250 appearances.

Ipswich Town made an offer at the end of last season for the clubs player of the year, believed to be in the region of £300,000.

Coppinger has enjoyed much success since his arrival including the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy win in 2007 as well as promotion to the championship via the play offs in 2008.

One of his most memorable moments was when he was the man of the match in the second leg of the play off semi final at the Keepmoat. Coppinger helped Rovers through when he scored a hat trick in the home leg against Southend United.

Hopefully this deal will see him stay at the Keepmoat until 2014 and he's got a testimonial game tied into the deal. Been a long time since the clubs had a player for ten years. Trying hard to think of the last one?
