DRFC Brighton v Doncaster Form and Stats

Vital Doncaster looks at the form of both Brighton and Doncaster during pre season as the sides prepare for the opening Championship game of the season.

The game will take place at Brighton`s new Amex Stadium and we will also look at some opening day stats from the two clubs in recent seasons.

Pre season

Brighton

Brighton have played eight games during pre season, winning four, losing three and drawing one.

The Seagulls four wins have all come against lower non-league opposition.

They have beaten Burgess Hill 3-0, Horsham 3-1, Whitehawk 3-0 and Eastbourne Borough 2-0

Two of their defeats have come in high profile games. They lost to French Ligue 1 side Paris St Germain away 1-0 and finished off their pre season with a 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Their other defeat coming against Portuguese top-flight side Olhanense, when they were beaten 1-0.

Their only draw came in a 2-2 draw against a Tottenham XI.

Doncaster

Rovers have been involved in six games during pre season, winning four, drawing one and losing one.

The wins have come at Barrow 2-0, Mansfield Town 1-0, Sheffield United 1-0 and Grimsby Town 3-0.

Their only defeat came in the 1-0 defeat at Carlisle United.

Rovers only draw came in their opening pre season game when local side Armthorpe Welfare held them 1-1.

Players brought in

Brighton

Brighton have brought in eight new players during the summer.

Goalkeeper Daniel East has joined from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They have strengthened their defence with the signings of Ben Sampayo (Chelsea) and Romain Vincelot (Dagenham & Redbridge).

In midfield, they have added Will Buckley (Watford) and Anon Rodgers (Chelsea).


Will Hoskins (Bristol Rovers), Craig Mackail-Smith (Peterborough United) and Roland Bergkamp (SBV Excelsior) have all been brought in to boost the forward line.

Also rejoining the side from last season is Kazenga Lua Lua (Newcastle United) who has joined on loan until January.

The winger needs no introduction to Rovers fans having played for the club in 2009.

Doncaster

Rovers have brought in six players so far during the summer

Experienced Richard Naylor (Leeds United) and Tommy Spurr (Sheffield Wednesday) have been brought in to bolster the defence.

In midfield, they have brought in youngsters, James Baxendale (Leeds United) and Ryan Mason (Tottenham Hotspur) has joined on a season long loan.
They have also brought in speedy winger Kyle Bennett (Bury).

Former loan player Chris Brown (Preston North End) joins, seven years after his last appearance for the club.

Opening day stats:

Brighton

This will be only Brighton`s second opening day, home game since the turn of the century.

The last time they opened with a home game, they lost 1-0 to Walsall in the 2009/10 season.

Last season they opened with a 2-1 win at Swindon Town on their way to the League One championship.

Of their eleven games since the turn of the century, they have won five, drawn two and lost four.

Doncaster

Five of their last six seasons, opening games have been away from home.

Since their promotion to the championship, this will be their fourth opening day away game.

Despite seven of their opening day games being away from home since the turn of the century, Rovers have a good opening day record.

Rovers have won six, drawn four and lost one since 2000.

Last season, Rovers opened their season with a 2-0 win at Preston North End.

Their only defeat since the turn of the century came at Carlisle United in 2006, where they lost 1-0.
