DRFC Opener at Brighton set for full house

Doncaster Rovers opening game at Brighton and Hove Albion is heading for a sell out.

It will be the first home game in the league for Brighton since 1997 when Rovers were also the visitors at the Goldstone Ground.

Brighton have announced that the game at the Amex Stadium is sold out to home fans, with Rovers having just a handful of tickets left, with a capacity 22,500 expected.

It has been a long road back for Brighton since they had their ground sold from underneath them back in 1997 by the clubs board of directors.

The two clubs have grown close since 1997 as Rovers were having their own off field problems at the same time. Rovers supporters along with other clubs around the country, joined Brighton supporters in a show of solidarity against what had happened to the south coast club in their home game with Hartlepool United.

They spent two years sharing Gillingham`s Priestfield Stadium before returning to the Brighton area where they shared the athletics track, The Withdean Stadium until the end of last season.

For anyone who has visited the Withdean Stadium, whether it be in August or deepest winter it was not a nice place to go, with only one side of the ground covered and temporary seats on the other three sides.

It is great to see Brighton finally getting the stadium they and their fans deserve and Saturday should prove to be a fantastic occasion.

Should be a fantastic atmosphere on Saturday. I am really looking forward to the game and congratulations to Brighton on getting their ground after all these years.

I think it will be quite an emotional day, both clubs will understand what it means to Brighton.
