DRFC Rovers sign Barnes

DRFC Rovers sign Barnes

Doncaster Rovers have signed Giles Barnes after his release from West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season according to reports on Yorkshire Radio.

Barnes signs on a six-month short-term deal after appearing in Rovers final pre season friendly at Grimsby Town last Friday night.

The 22 year old burst onto the scene at Derby County and he was named the clubs young player of the year as he helped the rams to promotion to the Premier League in 2007.

Barnes has struggled with injuries since and he would have been destined for a big money Premier League move with a number of clubs chasing his signature.

The winger signed for West Bromwich Albion in 2010 and he made 23 appearances for the club during his eighteen month stay.

If he can stay fit this will be a fantastic signing. If he's playing well I think Rovers will need to extend the contract before somebody else nips in. Lets hope Rovers have taken out a stipulation in the contract that they have first option on extending his contract.

Albion fan in Peace. Gilo was a bit tubby and off the pace last season, but the short period he played in the Championship the season before was pretty good. If he stays fit and loses a stone he will do a job for you - particularly as you play nice football. His special move is the burst into the area from the right before tumbling under the slightest challenge for a penalty. He did this number on several teams during the run-in for our last Championship campaign. Best of luck for next season.

Any Albion fans who fancy answering a few questions about him: Were you disappointed to see him leave? Where do you think it went wrong for him at West Brom? What are his strength’s and weaknesses? Did you have any chants for him?
