DRFC Mason suffers ligament injury

Doncaster Rovers look like losing on loan midfielder Ryan Mason for a lengthy period after the midfielder suffered an ankle ligament injury in the Carling Cup win over Tranmere Rovers.

Mason joined Rovers last month on a season long loan from Tottenham Hotspur and had started the clubs first two games.

Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll speaking after the game said, 'He's damaged the ligaments in his ankle and had to leave the ground on crutches.
'We'll have to assess him in a couple of days. He's a Tottenham player so he'll have to go back to Tottenham for them to have a look at him, but I think it's going to be weeks rather than days."

The evening had started well for the 20 year old who netted his first goal in Rovers colours, to make the score 2-0 on the half hour.

Mason was then on the end of a poor challenge from behind from Tranmere player John Welsh that left O`Driscoll far from happy, 'The game was dead and the boy didn't really have to tackle him. He's gone from behind, late," continued O`Driscoll.

Mason was stretchered from the field, the third Rovers player in two games to leave the field on a stretcher. O`Driscoll`s has seen a whole host of players out injured since the turn of 2011 that at one point saw fourteen players on the treatment table. O`Driscoll tried to put a brave face on the clubs already large injury list this season, 'Someone said we must have run over a black cat - I think we've run over a litter of them,' he quipped.

Rovers were already without eight first team players before the season started, although Paul Keegan made a welcome return last night after five months out through injury.

The list was added to in the defeat at Brighton on Saturday, when star striker Billy Sharp suffered an ankle ligament injury and fellow striker James Hayter suffered a knee injury.

Both players were due to have tests on Tuesday to check the severity of their injuries.

I think Rovers need to get somebody in to remove the curse.
