O'Driscoll receives dreaded vote of confidence

Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll has received the dreaded vote of confidence from his chairman John Ryan after the clubs poor start to the season.

Rovers have picked up just one point from their opening seven championship games and are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

Around Christmas last year, Ryan was asking for loyalty from his manager, with Sheffield United trying to lure O`Driscoll to Bramall Lane.

Ryan is now showing O`Driscoll the same loyalty despite a terrible start to the season and insists O`Driscoll is still the best man for the job.

Speaking in the Doncaster Free Press, Ryan said, "For the people shouting for the manager`s head, I ask the questions 'who would you replace him with? Who is better?`
"I can`t think of any manager that is better equipped for the job, and those clubs who sack managers willy nilly end up relegated.
"The board and I are not going down that path."

Rovers have endured a similar start to this season as the one they encountered in their first season back in the Championship in 2008/09.

The side have been playing well enough without taking chances whilst at the other end defensive errors are being punished.

Rovers injury curse has not helped once again this season and the loss of the last two seasons leading goalscorer Billy Sharp has proven a pivotal part of Rovers form this season with an inability to convert their chances proving costly.

Jon Parkin as been brought in this week to bolster the Rovers forward line and with two home games in four days coming up they will be hoping to get some more points on the board.

Rovers have three more games before the next international break, by which time they will be hoping to have Billy Sharp back to full fitness as well as a number of other players in contention after returning from injury.
