DRFC O'Driscoll and O'Kelly on 'Gardening leave'

According to a report on the Doncaster Rovers official website this morning, manager Sean O`Driscoll and his assistant Richard O`Kelly have been placed on 'gardening leave.`

The statement on the official website reads:

It is with regret that the shareholders of Doncaster Rovers FC have taken the decision based on the long run of poor results, that Sean O`Driscoll and Richard O`Kelly will be put on gardening leave. They felt the action needed to be taken to address the current position.

Only yesterday, club chairman John Ryan stated that Sean O`Driscoll had his full backing and challenged the fans calling for his head to suggest a better manager to replace him.

Rovers have endured a poor start to the season, picking up just one point from their first seven championship games.

They haven`t recorded a win since March 1st when they won 3-1 at Derby County, a record stretching back twenty games.

The statement also states that Dean Saunders will be in temporary charge for the Crystal Palace game on Saturday.

I find this a very strange statement to come out of the club and on the eve of a game. Only yesterday John Ryan was stated that O'Driscoll would be going nowhere. as he been over ruled by the rest of the board? Why 'gardening leave' they have either sacked them or not? There is surely no way back. The whole statement just doesn't seem to ring true and after the debacle on the 'official site' the other day with the on/off signing of Jon Parkin, it makes me wonder whether the site is being hacked. If they have been relieved of their posts then thanks Sean and Richard for everything you have done for the club in the past five years. First domestic trophy, win at Wembley and promotion to the championship and playing some fantastic football. Punching above their weight for three seasons in the championship and I am sure if not for injuires last season they would have been in or around the play offs. Good luck for the future.

I think this is a backward step for the club. O'Driscoll and O'Kelly have and should be still allowed to carry the club forward. The injury list i starting to shorten so they should have been given time.

I think he should have least been given another month. Sharp is close to a return, Stock, Mason and others are all back to full fitness. The results would have started to improve. The dreaded vote of confidence strikes again!

Sad day when Sean and Richard were sacrificed to pacify the weakhearted. Just hope that Dean and the club reap the benifits and build on the great work they have achieved in the past five years.

I think Sean had lost the dressing room and the hunger and desire, I think thats what ultimately lost him his job.
