DRFC Rovers beat Wednesday in friendly

Doncaster Rovers won the first of their two behind closed doors friendlies this week with a 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

It was a chance for new manager Dean Saunders to look at his squad and it also gave more match time for Billy Sharp who played the first half.

Blackburn Rovers player Herold Goulon played almost all the game as he continues his trial with Rovers.

New signing Herita Ilunga played the first half and there was a welcome return for Adam Lockwood after his lengthy lay off through injury.

Rovers made the perfect start when Kyle Bennett scored inside sixty seconds and the lead was doubled on eight minutes when Billy Sharp scored from the spot.

Wednesday fought back and were level inside 25 minutes but James Hayter netted the winner for Rovers on 37 minutes.

Dean Saunders will now prepare his squad for a friendly at Manchester United on Friday.

Team
Woods, Goulon (Wakefield 88), Hird, Dumbuya, Ilunga (Radford 46), Wilson, Barnes, Mason (Husband 80), Sharp (Lockwood 46), Hayter (Baxendale 56), Bennett (McCormack 69)

Good to see Sharp amongst the goals even if it was from the penalty spot.

Its good that those players on the fringe of the first team are getting a run out.
