DRFC Ryan - We had to do something different

Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan believes the club had to do something differently if they are to have any chance of reaching the Premier League whilst also cutting their losses.

Rovers, who are currently in the bottom three of the championship, have struck up a deal with football agent Willie McKay that will see him working as a consultant at the club for two years.

McKay will work for just £100 per week according to reports, whilst he will use his contacts to bring high quality players to the Keepmoat.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Ryan said,"I want to get Doncaster Rovers into the Premier League and I think the only way we are going to get into the Premier League is to do it differently.
"I think our fans will realise that. They will realise that we cannot go on sustaining the huge losses like we have year on year for many years now, because we just can`t get the fans in.
"I know if we get into the Premier League we would fill the ground at least."

McKay will be looking to bring in players who are currently struggling to gain regular first team football at their current clubs on a short-term deal.

The move, which will see them playing for Rovers, whilst having the vast majority of their salary paid by their parent club, will give them the opportunity to put themselves back in the shop window.

Ryan believes the move will give the club their only realistic opportunity of reaching the Premier League whilst cutting the clubs losses as gates at the Keepmoat continue to dwindle.

AFter all the hard work of John Ryan in the past 13 years I would hate it to all go t*ts up. You can understand his dilemma at the club. Him and his fellow directors can't be expected to keep making huge losses each season. They tried everything last season and the start of this to get fans into the ground but have struggled. All I can do is wish them luck and lets see what happens.
