DRFC Rovers sign former African Player of the Year

Doncaster Rovers have signed El Hadji Diouf on a short-term deal.

The 30-year-old Senegalese international, has signed on a three-month deal at the Keepmoat after being released by Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season.

The versatile player has twice been named African footballer of the year in 2002 and 2003.

He has won 69 caps For Senegal, scoring 21 goals and he was including the best eleven players performing at the 2002 World cup finals.

Diouf is vastly experienced in British football having played for Premier League sides, Liverpool, Bolton, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers. He also had a spell on loan with Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers last season, helping them win the Scottish League Cup and the Championship.

He has recently had a trail at West Ham United and Doncaster are believed to have beaten a host of clubs to land him.

Was reading comments attributed to West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, who was giving him a trial at West Ham. His comments were along the lines of, he is unfit and it would take quite a while to get him up to match fitness. If this is true then what is the point of a three month deal.
