DRFC Ipswich ready to make Sharp move

Ipswich Town boss Paul Jewell says he will make another attempt to sign Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp in the January transfer window.

Jewell tried to lure Sharp to Portman Road in the summer when he had a £2.3 million bid turned down by Doncaster.

Doncaster did accept a bid from another fellow championship side Southampton later in the summer, when they agreed a fee in excess of £3 million that triggered a clause in Sharp`s contract, which allows him to speak to any interested club.

Jewell says he is ready to make another bid for the player who has been Rovers top scorer for the past two seasons.

Jewell said in an interview, "Doncaster will have to accept an offer because Billy Sharp has got a clause in his contract.
"If a club meets that valuation, they have to give him permission to speak.
"We`d like to have him here.
"There`s no hiding from the fact we tried to get him in the summer because he`s a quality Championship player - he might even be Premier League standard.
"I know Billy was interested in coming here in the summer so we`ll see what happens."

Sharp received a standing ovation from the Ipswich fans after scoring for Doncaster at Portman Road on Saturday in a moving tribute, just a week after losing his two-day-old baby boy.

Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is also rumoured to be ready to make another move for Sharp after failing in the summer.

Sharp signed for Doncaster for a club record fee, £1.15 million in the summer of 2010, after enjoying a successful season at the Keepmoat whilst on loan from Sheffield United.

The 25 year old has just over 18 months remaining on his current contract at the Keepmoat.

You would think the papers and Ipswich would leave Sharp alone at a time like this.

Your not having him Ipswich. I think at this moment in time he needs to stay in Yorkshire around his family.
