DRFC Rovers sign Premier League defender

Doncaster Rovers have signed Aston Villa defender Habib Beye on loan.

The 34-year-old Senegal international has signed for Rovers on a 93-day loan deal, subject to clearance, keeping him at the Keepmoat Stadium until February 21st.

Beye spent ten years in France with Paris St-Germain, RC Strasbourg and Marseille.

During his time in France, he won the French Cup and was a runner-up on two occasions. He also played in the Champions League and UEFA Cup, where he helped Marseille reach the final in 2004, where the lost to Spanish side Valencia. He was named Marseille fans player of the year in 2006.

He joined Newcastle United in the Premier League in 2007 and he was named their player of the year in his first season.

Following Newcastle`s relegation to the championship in 2009, he made the move to Aston Villa.

Beye has made just eleven appearances for Villa since his move from Tyneside.

He retired from international football in 2008 having made 35 appearances for Senegal including playing in the 2002 World Cup Finals.

He will wear the number 41 shirt during his stay at the Keepmoat.

It's a bit tenuous calling him a premier league defender. Or did you mean Reserve PL? Mind you, even then ....... he hasn't been picked that often, even in the reserves!
