DRFC Sharp -I intend to stay for the time being

Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharps says he intends to stay at the Keepmoat to help the club pull away from the relegation zone in the championship.

Sharp has been linked with a number of clubs since the summer but he says he is staying to help Doncaster. Speaking on Sky Sports, Sharp said, 'I am staying to help Doncaster - at least for the time being."

Sharp scored his seventh goal of the season in the 1-0 win over Southampton at the weekend against a club that tried to sign him in the summer.

The striker spoke to his former Scunthorpe United boss Nigel Adkins, who is now the manager at Southampton in the close season.

Sharp decided to turn down the move to St Mary`s, feeling it wasn`t at the right time. 'I spoke to Southampton in the summer, but it wasn't to be at the time," he continued.

The 25 year old is the clubs record signing having made the move for £1.15 million in the summer of 2010 from Sheffield United after enjoying a successful season on loan at the Keepmoat in the previous season.

Sharp has eighteen months left on his current contract and he admits that it is inevitable that he will move on eventually, 'People are always asking me when I am going to leave, but I didn't leave in the last window or the one before that.
'I will go one day, that's football, but I'm enjoying my time here.'

The striker missed almost two months of this season following an ankle injury on the opening day of the season at Brighton.

He has an excellent strike record during his time at the Keepmoat having netted 38 times in 79 appearances, including three goals in his last two games.

The one thing you can say about Billy is he isn't motivated by money. He turned down better offers to join Rovers last season and he could have left in the summer. He is a rare breed in a football world that is dominated by no loyalty and greed.
