DRFC Burnley v Doncaster Head To Head

DRFC Burnley v Doncaster Head To Head

Vital Doncaster looks at the head-to-head record between Burnley and Doncaster Rovers ahead of the game at Turf Moor on Boxing Day.

The two sides have met on fourteen occasions at Turf Moor with Burnley having the upper hand with seven wins, Doncaster two and five being drawn.

Burnley enjoyed their biggest win between the two sides in the first ever meeting when they defeated Doncaster 7-0 during the 1901/02 season.

Doncaster had to wait until the sixth meeting between the two sides for their first win at Turf Moor during the 1981/82 season.

Richard Dawson scored the only goal of the game for Rovers against the eventual champions of Division Three.

Rovers only other win came in their next visit during the 1984/85 season.

Ray Deans scored the only goal of the game as Rovers completed their only ever double over Burnley having won 2-0 at Belle Vue earlier in the season.

During the 1991/92 season, the two sides met five times before the New Year, with three of them coming at Turf Moor. The sides met in the FA Cup, Associate Members Cup and League between November 16th and December 28th. They also met at Belle Vue in this period in an FA Cup replay, after Doncaster had held Burnley to a 1-1 draw in the first game.

Burnley were unbeaten in all five games as they won the Division Four title.

The two sides have met in the championship twice in the last two seasons with both games finishing in a draw.

When the two sides met last season the game finished 1-1.

James Hayter gave Rovers an early lead before veteran keeper Neil Sullivan denied Chris Eagles from the penalty spot to maintain Roves lead.

Burnley equalised through David Cork halfway through the second half.

Wayne Thomas missed a great chance to win the game for Rovers in the closing stages when he headed over from close range.

Some good details. Remember the 1-0 win in 81/82. We had just gone up and won about six games in a row 1-0.

Only ever scored more than once. I can see that changing on Boxing Day.
