DRFC Saunders looking for strong response

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders is looking for a strong response from his players when they travel to Watford on Saturday.

Rovers were beaten in their Boxing Day clash at Burnley 3-0 and Saunders is hoping his players have the strength of character to bounce back.

Speaking in the Doncaster Star, Saunders said, "Things go against you in sport and you`ve got to have the confidence to take the knocks and bounce back.

"It`s how you react which counts. Weak characters let their heads go down after losing 3-0 but stronger characters can see the bigger picture and what is ahead of them.

"We`ll come out (of the Burnley game) stronger and we`ll be trying to beat Watford.

"I thought that we gave a good account of ourselves at Burnley - though the score line might not show that - and I`m confident that we can go anywhere and get a result."

Rovers have shown their character since the arrival of Saunders as boss in September. They were rooted to the bottom of the championship with just one point from their opening seven games on his arrival.

They have picked up six points from a possible twelve so far this month to move to within two points of safety having beaten table toppers Southampton and big spending Leicester City at the Keepmoat.

Rovers now face two games in three days and will be hoping to move above Nottingham Forest and Bristol City and out of the relegation zone.
