DRFC Chimbonda - Staying up the first aim

Doncaster Rovers defender Pascal Chimbonda says the first aim is to stay in the championship after extending his deal at the Keepmoat Stadium and then let us see what happens.

Chimbonda has signed a new deal to keep him with Rovers until the end of the season and despite saying staying up his the priority he hasn`t ruled out a charge towards the play off places in the second half of the season.

Speaking on the official website , Chimbonda said, 'The aim is to stay in the Championship. If we do, we can achieve big things.

'There's a lot who've followed me in that are quality like (El Hadji) Diouf and (Herita) Ilunga and I want to stay with them until the end of the season.

'Maybe after that we can aim for the play-offs but first we have to beat Watford and Barnsley.'

Chimbonda follows El Hadji Diouf in committing themselves to Rovers past their initial short-term deals.

On loan duo Herita Ilunga and Habib Beye, have also expressed a desire to stay with Rovers when their loan spells run out in January.

Rovers have already been busy ahead of the January transfer window opening next week by agreeing terms with trio Habib Bamogo, Mamadou Bagayoko and Damien Plessis. All three players have Champions League experience and will stay with Rovers until the summer.

Rovers are currently two points from Safety at the foot of the table. However, they have won two of their last four games against promotion candidates Southampton and Leicester City.

Whilst Chimbonda`s confidence is admirable, they would need to achieve around 55 points from a possible 69 between now and the end of the season if they were to achieve the end of season play-offs.

Make sure Rovers stay up first Pascal. Next season could be the big one if the right players can be brought in next summer.
