DRFC Saunders will not get Sharp cash
Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders is not expecting to have any cash from the sale of Billy Sharp to be made available if the clubs leading goalscorer leaves during the January transfer window.
A number of clubs are being linked with Sharp who has already netted ten times this season in just eighteen appearances.
Leicester have already been reported as having a bid for the striker turned down by Rovers.
Sharp has a clause in his contract, allowing him to speak with any interested party if they meet the clubs asking price, now believed to be £1.85 million.
Saunders was asked in an interview on Yorkshire Radio whether he expected to see any of the cash to strengthen his squad even further during the January transfer window.
Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Saunders said,"I don`t think so. The club need the money because we are not getting massive gates.
"We were favourites to get relegated at the start of the season, probably because of the budget. Usually the club with the smallest budget are the favourites, so we need all the money we can get."
This may not be too much of a problem to Saunders who along with agent Willie McKay have already brought in a whole host of new players since his arrival in September.
Rovers have already brought in four players during the January transfer window with trio Habib Bamogo, Mamadou Bagayoko and Damien Plessis all signing until the end of the season.
They have also extended the contracts of Pascal Chimbonda and Giles Barnes who were both out of contract with the club in January.
Another player out of contract in January, El Hadji Diouf is also reported to have agreed a new 18 month deal with the club although it is still unclear whether he has yet put pen to paper.
Rovers have also signed young goalkeeper David Button on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for a month and he made an impressive debut in the win over Barnsley on Monday.
