DRFC Pearson - Door not closed for Sharp

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson says the door is still not closed on the possibility of Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp joining the club.

Sharp has turned down a move to Leicester after both clubs agreed a fee for the player just over a week ago.

Pearson says the club have made the best offer they could possibly make to Sharp and the club can only go so far.

Speaking in the Leicester Mercury, Pearson said, 'We have made the best offer we can make.

'The door is not shut but you can only go so far.

'As a club we have probably been guilty of going overboard in terms of spending on certain players so far.

'As far as I am concerned, it is about building a team. It is not collecting players. I don't intend to do that.

'We have done quite a bit of trimming down already in terms of dispensing with players. Now it is time to add to what we have got and complement it. But also we have to get more out of what we have already got here.'

Leicester also had an initial bid from Rovers turned down before coming back with an increased offer that triggered a clause in Sharp`s contract allowing him to talk to another club.

Sharp has now turned down moves to Southampton and Leicester since the summer and Rovers are hoping he will stay and help them pull away from the relegation zone.

The inform striker has netted ten times in nineteen games this season, including six in his last eight games.

With two weeks still remaining in the January transfer window, Rovers are still expecting more interest for the clubs record transfer.
