DRFC Saunders not confident of Diouf stay

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders thinks his chances of holding onto El Hadji Diouf are slim if Billy Sharp remains at the club.

Diouf agreed to sign a 18 month deal with the club in December but he is still to sign the new deal, with his current short-term deal at the club due to expire.

With Saunders now hopeful of holding onto star striker Billy Sharp, Saunders does not think he will be able to keep hold of both Diouf and Sharp.

Speaking in the Doncaster Free Press, Saunders said, "In an ideal world I`d love to keep both of them - but I`m not confident.

"There are lots of clubs interested in Diouf.

"Hopefully I can persuade the board to come up with some sort of deal which suits everyone."

Diouf has already been linked with a move to big spending Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, Premier League side Wigan Athletic as well as sides in the American MLS.

The former twice-African player of the year has made ten appearances since arriving at the Keepmoat in September scoring twice.
