DRFC Sharp in running for 2011 goal of the year

Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp is in the running for the Mitre Football League goal of the year for 2011.

Sharp is in the running for his goal against Middlesbrough at the Keepmoat on November 1st.

A wonderfully well worked goal by Doncaster saw Diouf flick the ball to Sharp who volleyed over the goalkeeper from an acute angle.

The goal came on an emotionally charged night for Sharp, who played in the game just three days after his two-day-old son Luey had died.

After scoring the goal, Sharp revealed a shirt with 'That`s for you son` printed on it.

All 92 Football League clubs chose their goal of the year, which were whittled down to just ten finalists by a Football League panel of judges.

The ten finalists can now be voted on until February 14th, with the top five going into the final.

The overall winner will be announced at the Football League awards dinner on Sunday March 11th.
