DRFC Diouf looking forward to challenge

El Hadji Diouf is looking forward to the challenge of keeping Doncaster Rovers in the championship after committing his future to the club.

Diouf extending his stay at the Keepmoat until the end of the season yesterday after coming to the end of his short-term deal, which ended after the game at Hull in midweek.

The Senegal international and twice former African footballer of the year is now hoping to help Rovers get out of the relegation zone and he sees no reason why they can`t if they continue to play like they have in recent home games.

Speaking in the Sheffield Star, Diouf said, "I like a challenge and I want to do my best and help the football club.

"The lads I`ve played with have been fantastic.

"If we continue to work like we did when winning against such teams as Leicester and Southampton and other big clubs then hopefully we`ll stay up."

Diouf originally signed at the end of October and made his debut in the home defeat to Middlesbrough at the start of November.

The 31 year old scored twice in Rovers next game at Ipswich Town to help Rovers to a 3-2 win.

He has been hampered by a hamstring injury since his arrival at the Keepmoat, missing four games in November and December.

Diouf has made ten appearances in total since his arrival and he netted his third goal for the club in the recent 2-1 defeat at Bristol City.

He has taken over the number 10 shirt at the club. The number vacated by Billy Sharp who departed for Southampton this week.

It is quite funny how a player I disliked just from seeing him on TV can be so popular when he is now playing for the club. Great that he is staying
