McKay - Rovers in talks with West Ham for striker

Doncaster Rovers are in talks with out of favour West Ham striker Frederic Piquionne according to agent Willie McKay.

McKay is working with Rovers as a consultant in bringing players to the Keepmoat on a short-term deal in an attempt to put them in the shop window.

Rovers saw leading goalscorer Billy Sharp leave the club last week and are looking for a striker to spearhead their survival fight.

McKay says Rovers are in talks with West Ham over the possibility of the French international joining the club.

Speaking to SkySports.com, McKay said, "We are talking to West Ham about taking Piquionne on loan.

'He is a player I know a lot about having followed him when he was in France with St Etienne, Monaco and Lyon before coming to Portsmouth and then West Ham.

'Dean is keen to get a new striker in and hopefully we can do a deal for Piquionne.'

The 33 year old has seen his chances limited at West Ham this season and he looks to be even further down the pecking order at Upton Park following the signings of strikers Ricardo Vaz Te and Nicky Maynard on transfer deadline day last week.

He has made 21 appearances for West Ham this season, scoring just two goals and he has featured just once so far in 2012.

Rovers have already had defender Herita Ilunga on loan this season from West Ham with the London club paying the vast majority of his wages.

Surely we need to offload a few of these short term deals and loans first. We have so many not playing already. They might not be on much but whatever it is, is costing the club money. We haven't even seem Diatta yet.
