DRFC Chimbonda - Championship is a tough division

Doncaster Rovers defender Pascal Chimbonda says the championship is a very tough league to play in.

The former French international has spent the vast majority of his career playing in the top flight of the French and English leagues in a thirteen-year career and he says despite people telling him the championship is an easy division he disagrees.

Speaking on the BBC Late Kick off Show, Chimbonda said, "Everyone says the championship is easy, but trust me it is not easy. You play every weekend and they are tough, tough games.

"Everyone fights and wants to be promoted to the Premiership. That is why it is really hard to play in the championship."

Chimbonda has played for Wigan Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland in the Premier League before an unsuccessful season with Queens Park Rangers in the championship last season.

After his release from Rangers, the 32 year old signed a short-term deal with Doncaster in September.

He made five appearances before suffering a hip injury in the win at Ipswich Town at the start of November.

Chimbonda signed a new deal at the Keepmoat over the festive period, keeping him with the club until the end of the season.

He returned to the side at Watford on New Year`s Eve but he was replaced within thirty minutes of the game through injury.

He has recently returned to training and will be hoping to help steer Rovers clear of the relegation places with eighteen games to go.
