DRFC Time running out for Sharp votes

DRFC Time running out for Sharp votes

There is just under a week remaining to help former Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp earn a place in the final five for the Mitre Football League goal of the year for 2011.

The striker moved to Southampton recently but it would still be good to see Sharp win the award for his goal during his time with Doncaster.

Sharp is in the running for his goal against Middlesbrough at the Keepmoat on November 1st.

A wonderfully well worked goal by Doncaster saw Diouf flick the ball to Sharp who volleyed over the goalkeeper from an acute angle.

The goal came on an emotionally charged night for Sharp, who played in the game just three days after his two-day-old son Luey had died.

After scoring the goal, Sharp revealed a shirt with 'That`s for you son` printed on it.

All 92 Football League clubs chose their goal of the year, which were whittled down to just ten finalists by a Football League panel of judges.

The ten finalists can now be voted on until February 14th, with the top five going into the final.

The overall winner will be announced at the Football League awards dinner on Sunday March 11th.

Anyone voting also gets the chance of winning two places at the awards ceremony in March as well as £200 towards travel and accommodation.
