Visiting Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet was critical of both the referee and the pitch after his side were pegged back by a late El Hadji Diouf penalty for Doncaster Rovers. Poyet felt the referee Geoff Eltringham was poor for both sides and he was embarrassed by his performance.
The Brighton manager had no complaints about the penalty decision with a Brighton defender raising his arm in the penalty area. When asked about the decision on BBC local radio after the game, Poyet said, "It was a handball.
"There was more noise and protests from both clubs about decisions made by the referee.
"The referee today couldn`t see things happening both ways, and I am disappointed, it is embarrassing really. He was one of the worst referees we have had and I am not using that as an excuse."
As well as the referee, Poyet was critical of the playing surface at the Keepmoat stadium, saying he would never pay to watch a game of football on a playing surface like that. "I don`t think we played well. We tried to change things similar to what we did at Hull, because of the pitch.
"It was difficult to pass the ball on the floor because it kept bumping up and it is difficult to control and it made it ugly. If you pay money to watch football, you do not want to do it on a pitch like that.
"It doesn`t help Doncaster because they have good footballers and they cannot pass the ball either.
"It is impossible to play on it is awful. If I had to come here and watch football every week to watch football, I can assure you I wouldn`t and that is nothing to do with the players of Doncaster Rovers or their staff it is because of the pitch, it is horrendous," continued Poyet.
Rovers still have seven home games between now and the end of the season on a playing surface that will only get worse.
The council owned Keepmoat stadium is also the home to the Doncaster rugby league side and ladies team Doncaster Rovers Belles, who are both in action at the Keepmoat between now and the end of the season.
