DRFC Doncaster v Derby Head to Head

DRFC Doncaster v Derby Head to Head

Vital Doncaster looks at the head-to-head record between Doncaster Rovers and Derby County at Belle Vue and the Keepmoat over the years.

The two sides have only ever met on nine occasions at Doncaster with Doncaster winning four and Derby five.

Derby won the first three encounters that all came at Belle Vue.

The first ever meeting came in the 1953/54 season when Derby won 3-1.

They met again in the 50`s during the 1957/58 season when Derby once again won 2-1.

It was almost twenty years before the sides clashed again in a League Cup tie during the 1976/77 season.

Derby were amongst the top sides in the country at the time and scraped through the second round clash 2-1.

Rovers won for the first time the next time the two sides met during the 84/85 season.

The following season, Derby won 3-0 as they won promotion to the Second Division.

The next meeting came twenty years later when Rovers won a thrilling League Cup encounter.

Rovers looked to be cruising through when they led 3-0 thanks to two goals from Jonathan Forte and one from Brian Stock with just 16 minutes remaining.

Derby produced an amazing comeback with goals from Steve Howard, Darren Moore and Arturo Lupoli to take the game into extra time.

The sides could not be separated during extra time and the game went to penalties.

After 14 perfect penalties, Lewin Nyatanga missed for Derby and James O`Connor fired home to send Rovers through to the third round.

The first two meetings at the Keepmoat saw Rovers win both encounters 2-1.

When the sides met last season, Derby won for the first time at the Keepmoat.

Luke Moore gave them a first half lead and Kris Commons doubled the lead on the hour.

Two goals in two minutes from Dean Shiels brought the scores level but Commons scored his second of the evening to take the points back down the M1.

Been to most of the games since 76/77. The league cup win a few years ago was an amazing game.
