DRFC Jewell not interested in Coppinger deal

DRFC Jewell not interested in Coppinger deal

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell admits he is unlikely to make a move for Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger this summer.

Jewell tried to sign Coppinger last summer but Coppinger decided on a new deal keeping him at the Keepmoat.

Following Rovers relegation to League One, Coppinger is keen to stay in the championship and indicated last week that he would welcome a move to the Suffolk club.

Jewell is not expecting to make a move for Coppinger this summer. Speaking in the East Anglian Times, the Ipswich boss said, "While James was keen this time last year, then he signed a new contract at Doncaster. We thought it might happen last year but now I don`t think it will happen again."

Coppinger is Rovers longest serving player at the club having signed in 2004.

The 31 year old has made almost 350 appearances during his time with Rovers.

I still think he will stay in the championship. Someone will come in for him and I am sure he must be one of the players Rovers will need of the books.

He has served us well so I just wish him luck in the future whether it is with us or not.
