DRFC Saunders hard at work behind the scenes

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders says he is working busily behind the scenes at the Keepmoat as he looks to build a squad capable of making a swift return to the championship next season.

Saunders is preparing for life back in League One next season and the Rovers boss finally announced his released and retained list on Friday.

The Rovers boss says he is working hard behind the scenes at the Keepmoat stadium. Speaking on the official website , Saunders said, "It might appear that there is not a great deal going on at the moment but, I can assure you, there is a lot happening behind the scenes with existing players I want to keep and the new players I hope to get in.

"I`ve spoken to ten potential targets already to get a feel for what they are like face to face."

Saunders named just thirteen players on his retained list, whilst twenty players came to the end of their contracts at the end of last season.

He is hoping to retain the services of some of those players out of contract, whilst he may need to move on some of the bigger earners still in contract as he looks to reduce the wage bill next season. "There are budget restrictions in place and I have not made offers to anyone yet," added Saunders.

Rovers have already confirmed they have spoken to Hull City midfielder James Harper who is out of contract this summer. The experienced 31 year old is looking for a new club after a frustrating season at the KC Stadium where he made just two appearances.

The clubs official twitter feed also announced on Friday that the club have made two bids for unnamed players.
