DRFC Former midfielder off to the Euro's

Former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Paul Green has been called up to the 23-man squad by Republic of Ireland for the European championships in Ukraine and Poland.

Green has been called up from the standby list after fellow midfielder Keith Fahey suffered a groin injury that has ruled him out this summer during the warm up before their friendly with Bosnia on Saturday.

Ireland face a tough task if they are to make it through the group stage with reigning World and European champions Spain in their group as well as Italy and Croatia.

The 29 year old made his debut for Ireland in May 2010 against Paraguay and he scored his first international goal in their next game against Algeria three days later.

Green was a regular for Ireland the following season before a cruciate knee ligament injury ruled him out for over five months.

The midfielder has made just one appearance for Ireland this season in their 2-2 home international friendly against the Czech Republic in February, when he came off the bench.

Green is out of contract at Derby this summer and a free agent after rejecting a new deal offered by the club.

The Yorkshire born midfielder started his career at Doncaster and he helped the side climb from the conference to the championship during seven years and over 275 appearances for the club.
