DRFC League announce new League Cup sponsors

The Football League have announced new sponsors for the League Cup.

Credit card company Capital One have agreed to sponsor the competition for the next four seasons and take over from Carling.

Capital One becomes the seventh sponsors of the competition since its inaugural season in 1960.

The competition was known as the Football League Cup until 1982 when it announced its first sponsors, Dairy Crest, and it was known as the Milk Cup until 1986.

Since then it has also been known as the Littlewoods Challenge Cup and Rumbelows Cup (both retail), Coca-Cola (soft-drink), Worthington and Carling (both breweries).

The first round draw will be announced on Thursday June 14th with all League One and League Two clubs taking part. It will also include all last season`s Championship clubs, as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers who were relegated from the Premiership.

The first round ties will take place in the week prior to the Football League season, week commencing August 13th.

Rovers went out at the second round stage last season when they were beaten by Leeds United 2-1 at home.
