DRFC Hird to join Chesterfield

DRFC Hird to join Chesterfield

Doncaster Rovers defender Sam Hird has agreed a deal to sign for Chesterfield on July 1st.

Hird is contracted to Rovers until June 30th before becoming a free agent.

The 24 year old has agreed a two-year deal with the League Two side.

Hird made 34 appearances for Rovers last season and it is believed that Rovers manager Dean Saunders was hoping to sort out a new deal to keep him at the Keepmoat.

He made 159 appearances for the club in five years at the Keepmoat and he played his part in the club reaching the second tier of English football for the first time in fifty year in 2008, playing in the League One play-off final at Wembley when Rovers beat Leeds 1-0.

I am disappointed to see him leaving and even more so to a League Two club.

A worrying sign if we have lost one of our own players to League Two.
