DRFC Rovers giving trial to striker

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders is giving a trial to Amari Morgan-Smith.

The 23 year old who can play on the wing or up front is a free agent after being released by Blue Square Premier League side Luton Town.

Morgan-Smith started his professional career at Stockport County where he made one substitute appearance at the end of the 2007/08 season.

He left Stockport to join non-league Ilkeston Town in the summer of 2008 and he helped the side win promotion the Blue Square Conference North in his first season.

His form earned him a trial with Derby County during pre-season before returning to Ilkeston.

The former Wolves and Crewe trainee scored 21 goals in in their first season in the Blue Square Conference North with Ilkeston before being released with the club in serious financial trouble.

The Ilkeston manager at the time, Kevin Wilson, described him as the 'hottest property in non-league football.`

He moved on to Luton Town in September 2010 and he scored on his debut in the 2-0 win over Mansfield Town.

He finished the season with 5 goals in 22 appearances as Luton lost out in the Play-off final.

In his second season at Kenilworth Road, Morgan-Smith scored 9 times in 22 appearances as the club once again lost out in the play-off final.

Morgan-Smith started the game in Rovers opening pre-season fixture at Cleethorpes Town on Saturday.

He was replaced at half time in a game Rovers went on to win 4-2.
