DRFC Rovers handed JPT bye

Doncaster Rovers have been given a bye in the first round of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy.

Rovers will be taking part in the competition for the first time since 2008 following their relegation from the championship.

The competition is split into two Northern and two Southern sections, with Rovers in the Nort-East section of the draw.

The winners of the two Northern sections will meet over two legs to decide who will play in the final at Wembley in February.

Rovers have been given a bye in the North East section of the draw alongside Bradford City, Hartlepool United and Sheffield United.

The draw for the first round will take place on Saturday August 18th on Soccer AM between 10am-10.30am, with the first round ties to take place week commencing September 3rd.

Rovers will now enter the competition at the second round stage with those ties to take place week commencing October 8th.

The competition brings back happy memories for Rovers having beaten Bristol Rovers 3-2 in the 2007 final at the Millennium Stadium.

Chesterfield will be defending the trophy they won last season.
