Dumbuya - Saunders promised me a new deal

Former Doncaster Rovers player Mustapha Dumbuya says Rovers boss Dean Saunders promised him a new deal.

Dumbuya was allowed to leave Rovers in the summer after coming to the end of his contract and he is now training with crisis club Portsmouth.

Portsmouth are still unable to sign new players and they have been given until August 10th to sort out their financial problems or go out of business.

The former Rovers man though is willing to hang around after Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton gave him his word that he would sign the player.

Speaking in Portsmouth News, Dumbuya said, "I will sign here. I have given the manager my word and he has given me his word."

This is in contrast to what he says happened at the Keepmoat. Dumbuya states that Rovers boss Dean Saunders promised him a new deal this summer when his current contract expired, something that never materialised. "My time there (Doncaster) went really well and I was part of a successful team, but the new manager who came in had a different style of play and I didn`t fit into that.

'Before the end of the season he promised me a new deal and over the summer I thought I was going to get a call from him - but I didn`t get anything.

'It`s great to be wanted by Portsmouth, though,"
added Dumbuya.

Dumbuya made just four appearances for Rovers following the arrival of Saunders in September and he also spent time out on loan at Crystal Palace at the start of this year.

Mustapha showed a lot of promise but I thought he was played in the wrong position !

He should have got one. He certainly didn't fit into the plans of Saunders.

I think Saunders also promised us we would get out of relegation trouble!
