DRFC Sheffield Wednesday view on Rob Jones

Vital Doncaster have been in touch with the fans at Vital Sheffield Wednesday to get the lowdown on Rovers new signing Rob Jones.

Jones arrived from Hillsborough on Tuesday after being a regular for Sheffield Wednesday last season as they returned to the championship with a second placed finish.

Vital Sheffield Wednesday contributors, Will it ever happen and Disgruntled Owl have both given their views on the experienced defender.

Will it ever happen

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

His strength is his height. Wins just about every header and will score goals from set pieces. Also very brave. Not afraid to put in a strong challenge and wont bottle a 50/50.

Weakness is his pace. If he is turned, he does lack pace and struggles to get back. In addition, he is injury prone. Gets a knock in the wrong place and he will be off.

What is his preferred position and how versatile is he?

Centre back for definite. I cannot see him playing anywhere else at the back due to his lack of pace.

If you could describe Jones in three words, what would they be?

Tall, brave and slow.

Disgruntled Owl

He will completely own a penalty area. He is a giant, has a massive stride and he is experienced enough to know where the ball is going.

He will usually get his head on anything that going into the danger area. He does lack pace but realises this so does not get himself into that position that often.

There are not that many league One strikers who will be able to turn him and get clear. He does need to play alongside someone with a bit of pace though.

It looks like he could be a good leader on the pitch.
