DRFC Baxendale joins Saddlers

Walsall have completed the signing of young midfielder James Baxendale.

Doncaster Rovers released 19-year-old Baxendale at the end of last season after one season at the Keepmoat stadium.

Baxendale has been training with the midlands club since the start of pre-season and he joins up with former Rovers assistant manager Richard O`Kelly for a third time in the last year.

O`Kelly was assistant to Sean O`Driscoll last season at Rovers when Baxendale arrived at the club following his release by Leeds United.

Baxendale made three substitute appearances for Rovers last August before being frozen out by new boss Dean Saunders when he replaced O`Driscoll and O`Kelly in September.

O`Kelly had a brief spell in charge at Hereford United, taking Baxendale on loan, where he made one appearance for the bulls.

The assistant manager is now number two to Dean Smith at Walsall and Baxendale will get a very early opportunity to line up against his former club when Rovers travel to Walsall on the opening day of the season.

Disappointed to see us let him leave. He certainly looked decent last pre-season and then wasn't given any sort of a chance by Saunders.

It would have been nice to see him given a chance at the Keepmoat.
