DRFC Carey hopeful Rovers can add Paynter

Doncaster Rovers assistant manager Brian Carey says they are hopeful they can add trialists Billy Paynter to the squad.

Paynter is on the transfer list at Leeds United and he arrived at Doncaster today after an unsuccessful trial with championship side Blackpool earlier this week.

The 28 year old took part in training with the squad today and Carey is hoping he can be added to the squad. Carey speaking on the official website, said, "I think we`re hoping to add him to the squad.

"I don`t know where we are up to with it, he came in this morning and has taken part in the training session - hopefully he will be added to the squad.

"I don`t think he has had much game time with Leeds for one reason or another, but he would be a welcome addition to the squad and we`d be delighted for him to be here."

Paynter has endured a frustrating two seasons at Leeds where he made just 28 appearances, scoring 3 goals.

The much-travelled striker joined Leeds on a free transfer in 2010 after netting 29 times in League One for previous club Swindon Town.

Notts County are also reported to be interested in taking the striker to Meadow Lane.

Rovers certainly need to be bringing a few players in before next week. Saunders said three or four this week and its been one.
