Doncaster Rovers have today parted company with manager Dave Penney. Dave Penney has been the most successful manager in the clubs history, guiding them to two promotions and, last season, 30 seconds away from the League Cup semi finals. Last season the team finished in 8th position, just outside the playoffs.
Although Rovers had not got off to the best of starts, Ryan was at least expected to hold the axe for a further 5 games as he openly told the players at the start of the season that Penney had ten games to come good.
Fans are already speculating on who they would like as the next manager, Kevin Keegan, Steve Nicol, even former player Gynn Snodin. However, it will be a very difficult task for Ryan to find a manager with a better managerial record than Penney, without having to lure one away from his exisiting club. Though Ryan is not adverse to throwing money at players to get them to sign, so he may use that tactic when trying to get the manager of his choice.
Alternatively Ryan may opt for the cheap option of putting Director of Football Mickey Walker in charge, though Walker has not managed a football league club before.
