DRFC Harper completes Rovers move

Doncaster Rovers have completed the signing of free agent James Harper.

Rovers boss Dean Saunders admitted interest in the winger back in May as he was coming to the end of his contract at Hull City and he has spent the past few weeks training at the Keepmoat.

Harper has struggled with injuries since signing for the tigers in 2010.

The 31 year old has signed for Rovers on a one-year deal.

Harper came through the youth ranks at Arsenal without making a senior appearance. He joined Cardiff City on loan before signing for Reading in League Two in 2001.

He enjoyed nine years at the Madejski Stadium, helping Reading climb through the leagues and spend two seasons in the Premier League.

The midfielder was an ever present in their two seasons in the top flight during the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons.

After almost 350 appearances for the royals, he joined Sheffield United, initially on loan in September 2009 before making the move permanent and spending the remainder of the season at Bramall Lane where he made 38 appearances.

Harper moved to Hull in the summer of 2010 and he made 29 appearances in his first season.

Last season, as well as his brief substitute`s appearance against Nottingham Forest in the championship, he made just one start, in the Carling Cup against Macclesfield in August.

The experienced 31 year old made five appearances for Wycombe Wanderers on loan during January and February before returning to Hull.
