DRFC Coppinger turns down Barnsley move

Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger has turned down the opportunity to join championship side Barnsley.

Coppinger has been linked with a number of clubs over the summer and Rovers boss Dean Saunders says that the 31 year old wasn`t interested in a move across South Yorkshire.

Saunders told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'At the moment James is staying with us.

'Barnsley put a proposal to us but James told us that he wasn't interested, so nothing's happened.'

Coppinger is the clubs longest serving player having signed from Exeter City in 2004.

The winger has made 339 appearances for Rovers in his eight years with the club. So far this season he has been a used substitute in Rovers opening two League One games.
