England Call-Up For Dave Penney

England Call-Up For Dave Penney

Dave Penney could be the next manager of England Under 21s.

Peter Taylor has been told that the England Under 21 manager must be full-time coach. Taylor is currently doing the role on a part-time basis, whilst managing Crystal Palace.

McClaren had already offered the job to Sammy Lee but the ex-Liverpool player turned the opportunity down, preferring to stay at Bolton.

McClaren wants a full-time coach who can take on the responsibility of the under 21s whilst helping the senior side.

Penney and McClaren are old mates, and know each other well. Penney went on record last season saying how much McClaren had helped with Rovers excellent performances against Premiership sides in the League Cup.

Penney is available following his departure from Belle Vue this week and hold's the UEFA Pro-Licence qualification.

The only thing going against Penney is that he has not managed in the Premiership or Championship, then again neither had Taylor when he was appointed.

I'll echo the good luck to Dave. However we have heard in the recent past that he is a poor man Manager. Do you think it would be different with the national Juniors?
