DRFC Saunders infuriated with referee

DRFC Saunders infuriated with referee

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders was left infuriated with referee Graham Scott after the 1-1 draw at Hartlepool United.

Scott awarded Hartlepool a penalty with just twenty minutes remaining and Saunders said he felt his side had been robbed for what he described as a terrible refereeing decision.

Speaking on BBC Radio, Sheffield, Saunders said, 'We got robbed, end of story. I said to the players before the game that the only way we should lose a game like this is through bad luck or a dodgy ref. And we got both.

"I cannot understand how he can give a penalty for that. It was a long throw into the box, Paul Quinn is in front of Steve Howard and Shelton Martis is behind him. I have looked at it again and I am wondering what has he given it for? Maybe the foul could have been given the other way, but he made a few ricks all the way through the game.

'I feel sorry for the players because it's just a terrible refereeing decision that's cost them.'

Neil Austin converted the penalty for the home side with just twenty minutes remaining but Rovers showed their character to bounce back and claim a point when Rob Jones headed home with just one minute remaining.
