Walker To Run Things?

Walker To Run Things?

Caretaker manager Mickey Walker has told the BBC that he wants to be involved in choosing the next manager at Rovers.

Walker, who had been Director of Football until Dave Penney resigned last week, thinks that chairman Ryan will value his input.

'There is no point me taking the job and being subservient to John and I have got to be able to advise him.'

'If he wants my advice and I'm sure he will then I will give it to him.'

Walker, who is being assisted by goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson, won his first game in charge on Sunday thanks to a very late brace by Paul Heffernan.

A number of Rovers fans still favour Kevin Keegan, with Peter Reid and Gary Megson also named by fans as their choice of replacement.

Although Ryan has asked fans to back Walker, his subsequent interviews with the press, and a poll on the club's official site, suggest that he is after a 'big name' manager to shake things up rather than continue with Walker.

However, should Walker continue winning, Ryan may delay appointing a new manager, especially with the transfer window being closed, which would limit what a new boss could do.

I don't think Walker should be the next manager, he comes across as a "yes man" to me. Plus the team line-up was leaked out and put on some of the forums on Friday which is not very professional. Not many candidates out there.

I would like to see him stay at the club in some capacity, I think things started to go wrong when Mickey Lewis came in. Apparantly a lot of big names have applied for the job!!!

Mickey Lewis arrived when Thornton joined. Its common knowledge that Penney did not want Thornton, but come towards the end of last season and the start of this campaign Penney was forced to play him. Its my opinion that Thornton slows the play down too much and we play better without him.

Lets wait and see what happens after the board meeting on Wednesday. As for Thornton I think he is missing Horlock which allows him free to rove.
