DRFC Saunders - Clingan Will Play A Major Part

Doncaster Rovers boss Dean Saunders believes Sammy Clingan could play a major part for the club after signing for Rovers last week.

The Northern Ireland international has signed a short-term deal at Rovers after training with the club for the past week.

Clingan has been without a club since coming to the end of his contract at Coventry City in the summer.

Surprisingly the experienced midfielder has been unable to find a new club and Saunders feels the club are lucky to have him on a short-term deal.

Speaking on Radio Sheffield, Saunders said, "He`s a really good footballer and a really good player and we are lucky to have him on a short-term deal.

"He was offered all sorts of different deals during the summer and he waited and circumstances meant he missed the chances he had.

"I have been tracking him since July. He came in training with us, he has agreed to sign, we just need to get him fit now, and he will play a major part for us."

Clingan came off the bench with seven minutes remaining to make his Rovers debut in the 2-0 win at Notts County on Saturday.

I am sure there was quite a few championship clubs wanting to sign him. Get him fit and it is a great signing for League One.

Still not sure how we managed to pull this signing off. Are we offering him a shop window though with the short term contract.
