DRFC Rovers v Bournemouth Head To Head

Vital Doncaster looks at the head-to-head record between Doncaster Rovers and Bournemouth over the years.

The two sides have met on 17 previous occasions at Doncaster, with Doncaster winning 7, Bournemouth 2 and 8 have been drawn.

It wasn`t until the 1958/59 season that they first met. Doncaster winning a Third Division clash 5-1, their biggest win over Bournemouth.

Bournemouth failed to win on any of their first twelve meetings to Belle Vue and it wasn`t until the 1986/87 season that they enjoyed their first and biggest win, when they won 3-0.

Their only other win came in their only meeting at the Keepmoat in the 2007/08 season.

Doncaster had failed to win their opening two league games in what was to prove a promotion season and Bournemouth made it three games without a win when they won 2-1. Gordon Greer had given Rovers the lead but goals from Max Gradel and Jo Kuffour ensured the points returned to the South Coast.

Doncaster fans of a certain age will remember the final home game of the 1980/81 season.

Doncaster went into the game knowing victory would win them promotion from Division Four.

Goals from Alan Warboys and Ian Nimmo secured a 2-1 win for Doncaster.

The win ensured Doncaster their first promotion in ten years, to the wild celebrations in front of over 11,000 fans.

I remember the promotion game from 1981 as if it was yesterday. Remember all the fans coming onto the pitch and celebrating in front of the main stand at the end.
