DRFC Rovers mourning the death of Gilfillan

Doncaster Rovers are mourning the death of former forward Bob Gilfillan who has sadly died at the age of 74.

Gilfillan died in hospital on Thursday November 8th from prostate cancer.

The Scottish born forward joined Rovers in November 1965 from Southend United after spells at his home town club Cowdenbeath, Newcastle United and Raith Rovers.

Bill Leivers signed Gilfillan for Rovers and in his first season at Rovers he helped the club win the Fourth Division championship.

He helped Rovers win the Fourth Division title for a second time in the 1968/69 season and he scored Rovers opening goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Bradford City.

Gilfillan spent six years at Belle Vue making around 200 appearances before joining Northwich Victoria in 1971.
