In both sides long histories they have only ever met on fifteen occasions at Deepdale with the home side winning 11, Doncaster 2 and 2 draws.

Despite meeting on only fifteen occasions, the first one came way back in the 1901/02 season when Preston won 3-0.

Preston won the following season 5-0 and it was almost fifty years before they met again in the 1950/51 season.

The lilywhites went one better on this occasion winning 6-1.

Preston scored 25 goals in the first six meeting at Deepdale, scoring a minimum of three goals in each game.

It wasn`t until Rovers eighth visit that they recorded their first win when they won 2-1.

Rovers held Preston to a 2-2 draw in the 1994/95 season. The clash marked the debut of a young David Beckham who was on loan at Preston from Manchester United and he marked the occasion with a goal.

The sides last met on the opening day of the 2010/11 season.

Goals from James O`Connor and James Hayter in the opening twenty minutes secured a 2-0 win for Rovers.
