DRFC Doncaster v Sheffield United Head-To-Head

DRFC Doncaster v Sheffield United Head-To-Head

Vital Doncaster looks at the head-to-head record against South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United over the years.

For two clubs so close geographically they have only met on fourteen occasions at Doncaster.

Rovers have the slightly better record with five wins. Sheffield United have won four and there has been five draws.

The first ever meeting came during the 1935/36 season when they shared the points in a 0-0 draw.

They met again the following season, once again sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.

The following season the two sides were in different divisions but were drawn together in the FA Cup. Sheffield United progressed in the competition with their first win at Belle Vue when they won 2-0.

Rovers had to wait for the fifth meeting between the two sides in the 1951/52 season to enjoy their first win when they won 2-1.

They have met three times at the Keepmoat Stadium with one win each and one draw.

Sheffield United won the first meeting 2-0 in the 2008/09 season before they shared the points in a 1-1 draw the following season.

The last time they met was the 2010/11 season in a game shown live by the BBC.

James Coppinger opened the scoring for Rovers before striker Billy Sharp marked the occasion by scoring the second goal against his former club just before half time.

It was to prove his last involvement as he limped out of the game minutes later.

There were no further goals as Rovers deservedly won 2-0.

A decent record. I remember the League cup win in 78 and the league win in 83 when we were not expected to get anything.
