DRFC Rovers confirm Wolves approach for Saunders

Doncaster Rovers have confirmed that they have received an approach from Wolverhampton Wanderers for manager Dean Saunders for the vacant manager`s position at Molineux.

Saunders is odds on favourite for the post, which was vacated by Ståle Solbakken, following their embarrassing FA Cup defeat at non-league Luton Town on Saturday.

The club have confirmed on Doncaster Rovers official website this morning that Wolves have made an approach and they would not stand in his way but would like him to remain at the Keepmoat.

Saunders took over at the Keepmoat in September 2011 from Sean O`Driscoll with the club bottom of the championship.

The former Wrexham boss couldn`t avoid Rovers being relegated from the championship last season.

He has re-built the squad this season and they moved joint top of League One on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Colchester United on Saturday.

Saunders has also seen Rovers equal a 65-year-old club record recently when they made it eleven away games unbeaten in a row with a 3-0 win over Preston North End over the festive period.

The club currently have the best away record in the top four divisions, having won nine of their thirteen away games this season and they have conceded just eight goals on the road.

Former Rovers boss Sean O`Driscoll is also amongst the favourites for the job.

Be very disappointed if he was to leave at this stage of the season but a move into the championship at a club like Wolves will be hard for him to turn down.
